ROBER MURRAY SENTENCED TO 11 YEARS IN PRISON IN LIVERPOOL FOR HISTORIC SEXUAL ABUSE
A man described as a 'monstrous abuser' exploited two teenage boys while working at a children's home in Liverpool during the 1970s.Robert Murray, aged 76, breached the trust of his young victims and subjected them to multiple acts of indecent assault over a period of time.
He was convicted of 12 counts of indecent assault at Liverpool Crown Court after a trial that placed his victims through considerable hardship.
Murray, who resides on Harrismith Road in Fazakerley, received a total sentence of 11 years in prison for his sexual offenses.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police condemning Murray’s actions described him as 'disgraceful and cowardly.' The police stated: "Merseyside Police has today, Friday, 12 February, welcomed the sentencing of a Liverpool man to 11 years in prison for sexual offences against two teenage boys." The police further explained: "76-year-old Robert Murray of Harrismith Road, Fazakerley, was jailed after being found guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court.
The offences relate to two male victims, both teenagers at the time, and date back to the 1970s, when Murray worked at a Liverpool residential home for boys." Commenting after the sentencing, a Merseyside Police spokesperson expressed their support for the victims, saying: "Murray is a disgraceful and cowardly individual who seriously breached the trust of the two victims, and it's pleasing to see him jailed for a significant amount of time today.
He continued to deny his crimes throughout the investigation, which caused additional stress for the victims during the court process, but he was ultimately found guilty by unanimous verdict on all charges." The spokesperson also commended the victims for their bravery, stating: "I want to commend the victims for the courage they have shown, not only in coming forward to report Murray, but throughout the investigation and court proceedings too." They added: "Murray’s actions have undoubtedly had a lasting impact on their lives, but I hope today’s sentence offers some closure on these traumatic experiences and enables them to move forward, knowing Murray will not be released anytime soon." Finally, the police officer emphasized support for other victims of sexual abuse, saying: "We extend this message to all victims—time should never prevent justice.
