JAMES GOVAN BUST IN ABERDEEN FOR SHOWING INAPPROPRIATE MATERIAL AT SKENE SQUARE
James Govan, a 30-year-old man from Aberdeen, has been fined after being found guilty of displaying explicit material to a woman in a public space.The incident took place in the city’s busy streets, specifically at the traffic lights near Skene Square, where Govan was caught on CCTV showing a pornographic video on his mobile phone to a female pedestrian.
According to court records, the woman, who was walking alone after finishing her shift in the Rosemount area, encountered Govan at approximately 5:30 pm on March 8.
She was crossing the street when CCTV footage captured Govan holding his phone in a manner that clearly revealed the inappropriate content to her.
The woman, who did not know Govan, was reportedly startled and distressed by the incident.
It was further revealed during the court proceedings that Govan was already subject to a Sexual Prevention Order issued by Dundee Sheriff Court on October 27 of the previous year.
This order explicitly prohibited him from engaging in any form of communication with women, highlighting the seriousness of his previous convictions.
At the time of the incident, Govan was also on bail, which added to the gravity of his breach of court orders.
Govan admitted in court that he had shown the explicit material to the woman, thereby breaching the terms of his Sexual Prevention Order.
His actions were characterized by the sheriff as involving some degree of planning, although not of a long-term nature.
The court considered the breach a serious violation of the restrictions placed upon him and emphasized the importance of enforcing such orders to protect the public.
In sentencing, the sheriff imposed a fine of £420 on Govan, underscoring the seriousness with which the court viewed his actions.
