ABERDEEN PAEDOPHILE JAILED FOR BREACHING SEX OFFENDER RULES
An Aberdeen paedophile has been jailed after admitting breaching a ban that prohibited him from looking up and viewing pornography online.Graeme Redwood, who is 60 years old, was placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely in 2016 following a conviction for a similar offence and for breaching previous orders. He pleaded guilty to having a device capable of accessing the internet and failing to inform the police of an online username, ‘Sergeant Gimp,’ which was discovered on his device. The court heard that Redwood had been using search engines to look for sites related to child sexual abuse, using terms such as “schoolgirl,” “teen,” and words associated with sexual violence.
Additionally, Redwood admitted to having a device that could access the internet, which he failed to inform the police about.During a house search, police found that his property was cluttered with electronic devices.
A black Honor mobile phone was seen on his bed, and Redwood acknowledged it belonged to him, stating, “I shouldn’t have that,” and, “have it.
I was using it to buy a lot of the stuff.”Investigations revealed multiple accounts in Redwood’s name on the phone, which was used extensively for emails and internet activity, including searches related to indecent images of children, like “Rape school,” “schoolgirl,” and “teen.” Evidence also showed that since April 2024, Redwood had been using the online username ‘Sergeant Gimp’ on various adult websites, including live chat and pornography sites.Redwood pleaded guilty to what was described as a breach of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order by possessing a device capable of internet access and having an online username he had not disclosed.
His defense argued that he had only been viewing adult sites, not illicit images of children.
Redwood was described as a man with a good work ethic, having previously worked as a postman for thirteen years.Sentencing was delivered by Sheriff Philip Mann, who emphasized the importance of the order meant to prevent access to child abuse material.
The sheriff stated, “The purpose of a Sex Offences Prevention Order is to stop you looking at material relating to children or extreme pornography.
On this occasion, you did not access illicit material, but the risk is there nonetheless.” Considering Redwood's prior convictions, the sheriff stated that only a custodial sentence was appropriate.
Redwood was subsequently sentenced to 12 months in jail.
