ABERDEEN SEX OFFENDER GORDON YATES CAUGHT SEARCHING FOR NAKED BABIES ON GAMES CONSOLE
In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Aberdeen, a known sex offender was apprehended by police after they discovered him using his games console to conduct searches for highly inappropriate and illegal content. The individual in question, Gordon Yates, aged 27, was under a strict sexual offences prevention order at the time of the incident, which explicitly prohibited him from possessing or operating any device capable of accessing the internet.
This breach occurred on December 5, and the subsequent police investigation revealed alarming evidence of his misconduct.
Officers visited Yates’s residence in Aberdeen for a routine home check, during which they uncovered an Xbox One console along with a television displaying a web browser in his bedroom.
The investigation uncovered that Yates had entered search terms such as “naked babies,” which is indicative of his illicit interests.
Further examination of his devices revealed over 200 indecent images of children, a discovery that compounded the severity of his violations.
Yates, who is currently detained at HMP Grampian, pleaded guilty in court to breaching the terms of his sexual offences prevention order by possessing the games console and to the possession of indecent images or pseudo-images of children.
The case was heard at Aberdeen Sheriff Court, where Sheriff Morag McLaughlin decided to defer sentencing until later in the month.
This delay was granted to allow for the preparation of a social work report and an assessment regarding the potential imposition of a restriction of liberty order.
Additionally, the court continued consideration of a Crown motion seeking a further sexual offences prevention order against Yates.
Earlier in June 2017, Yates’s disturbing activities came to light during a police raid on his flat in Willowpark Crescent, Aberdeen.
Authorities discovered a staggering collection of child abuse images and videos stored across five different devices.
The haul included 670 images and 44 videos, with some of the most serious being classified as Category A, which depicts the most severe forms of child exploitation.
Among these were 36 images and 22 videos that involved children up to 15 years old, with three hours and three minutes of footage showing sexual acts performed on children, either by adult males or with sex toys.
The collection also contained material involving bestiality.
During the police interview, Yates admitted to being the sole user of the devices and took responsibility for the content found.
The search history on his devices revealed searches with highly disturbing terms such as “brother forcing little sister into sex,” “children naked,” and “little boys in their birthday suits.” Further examination uncovered additional indecent images, including one Category A image featuring five-year-old girls, stored on a laptop.
Other devices, including an Xbox and an iPhone, contained further indecent images, some copied from other sources.
The police found that Yates had actively downloaded and stored this illegal material across multiple devices.
Yates pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including taking or permitting the taking of indecent images, possession of such images, and possession of extreme pornographic material.
The court, presided over by Sheriff Graham Napier, acknowledged the gravity of the case and indicated that a custodial sentence was likely.
The sentencing was deferred until July 31 to allow for the preparation of criminal justice social work reports.
As part of his bail conditions, Yates was ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 16, except for his nephew, highlighting the court’s concern for public safety and the protection of minors.
