GORDON HALFORD FROM NORTHAMPTON ESCAPES JAIL AFTER FLASHING AT 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN WILKINSONS
In a disturbing incident that took place in Northampton, a 67-year-old man named Gordon Halford was involved in an indecent exposure case that drew significant attention from local authorities and the community alike.The incident occurred on March 6 at the Wilkinsons store located within the Weston Favell Centre, a popular shopping destination in Northampton.
According to court reports, Halford was seen in the store behaving suspiciously before the incident.
At one point, he approached a young girl, aged 12, who was shopping with her mother.
The girl recalls seeing Halford approaching her with a pencil and paper in each hand, which initially seemed innocuous but soon took a disturbing turn.
She looked down and noticed that his jacket was open, revealing that his private parts were exposed outside of his trousers.
The girl quickly averted her eyes and informed her mother about what she had seen.
Following this, Halford fled the scene, prompting the girl’s mother to pursue him through the store.
The situation escalated into a brief chase, but Halford was eventually detained in the Northampton car park after the mother, with the assistance of a bystander, managed to hold onto him.
During the arrest, it was observed that Halford’s trousers were unzipped and he was not wearing any underwear, confirming the allegations of indecent exposure.
Neil Rose, the prosecutor, detailed the events to the court, emphasizing the distress caused to the young girl and her family.
The court heard that Halford, who resides on Colleyweston Road in Rectory Farm, Northampton, admitted to the charge of indecent exposure.
In his sentencing, Judge Charles Wide QC acknowledged that while the offense was less severe than some of Halford’s previous convictions, it was nonetheless a distressing incident.
The judge sentenced Halford to six months in prison, suspended for two years, and ordered him to attend probation supervision and participate in community sex offender treatment programs.
Additionally, Halford was permanently barred from working with children.
It was also revealed during the court proceedings that Halford had a history of sexual offenses against children, including a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence handed down in February 2002.
His criminal record includes multiple convictions from the 1990s related to similar offenses, as well as charges involving the downloading and distribution of indecent images of children.
Despite his criminal history, the court’s decision reflected a recognition that this particular incident, while serious, did not warrant immediate imprisonment, though it underscored the ongoing concern about his conduct and the protection of vulnerable individuals in Northampton.
