WILLIAM FREEMAN FROM NORTHAMPTON ESCAPES JAIL AFTER CHILD ABUSE IN CAMBODIA

In a disturbing case that has sparked outrage, William Freeman, a 57-year-old man from Northampton, was recently convicted of child abuse charges in Cambodia but received a surprisingly lenient sentence that has left many in shock.

The incident took place in Siem Reap, a popular tourist destination known for its ancient temples, where Freeman was found to have engaged in heinous acts involving two young boys.

According to reports, Freeman used a manipulative tactic to lure the children, showing them cartoons featuring characters like Tom and Jerry on his mobile phone as a means to gain their trust.

Once he had their attention, he proceeded to expose them to pornographic material, which he then used as a tool to sexually assault the minors.

The youngest victim was only six years old at the time of the abuse, highlighting the severity and depravity of his actions.

Freeman’s crimes came to light after Cambodian authorities, with the assistance of the child protection organization Action Pour Les Enfants (APLE), launched an investigation that lasted for six months.

The group had been monitoring Freeman following reports that he was in contact with young children in the rural village of Kokchak, located near Siem Reap.

Evidence collected included testimonies from victims and witnesses, which ultimately led to his arrest and subsequent conviction.

During the court proceedings in Siem Reap, Freeman was sentenced to two years in prison, but the sentence was suspended, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed further offenses.

The court also rejected a request for his deportation, leaving him free to either re-offend in Cambodia or return to the United Kingdom at his discretion.

The only time Freeman has spent behind bars was a three-month period following his arrest.

Reactions to the verdict have been overwhelmingly negative.

Members of the Cambodian child protection community, who played a crucial role in bringing Freeman to justice, expressed their disgust at what they see as a lenient punishment.

Seila Samleang, director of APLE, stated, “The verdict is not acceptable.

Abusing two minors should be enough to ensure he spends a long time in jail.

Freeman is a dangerous person to children in both Cambodia and Britain.” British authorities have been notified of Freeman’s conviction, raising concerns about the potential for him to re-offend or face further scrutiny upon his return to the UK.

The case underscores the ongoing issue of child exploitation by foreign visitors in Southeast Asia, a problem that organizations like APLE have been actively working to combat.

Since 2003, APLE has helped arrest over 230 paedophiles, primarily from Western countries, including Britain.

In the past three years alone, thirteen British nationals have been caught through their efforts.

However, the organization is now facing financial difficulties, having to cut approximately £47,000 from its annual budget of £286,000 due to reduced funding from major donors.

This financial strain threatens to undermine their ongoing efforts to combat child sex tourism and protect vulnerable children.

Seila Samleang warned that without adequate resources, the progress made over the years could be reversed, and the cycle of abuse might return to a time when children in Cambodia were openly groomed and exploited, a situation the organization has been tirelessly working to eradicate.
