BRISTOL MAN GLYN CASE SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF GIRLS AND WOMEN
In a case that has shocked the community of Bristol, Glyn Case, a 66-year-old man formerly residing on Maywood Crescent in Fishponds, has been sentenced to a total of 16 years in prison following his conviction on multiple counts of sexual assault spanning over two decades. The Bristol Crown Court delivered the sentence last week after a thorough trial that uncovered a disturbing pattern of abuse involving young girls and women over a period from 1964 to 1987.
Case was found guilty of five counts of raping girls under the age of 16, two counts of indecent assault on girls under 14, and two counts of serious sexual assault on an adult woman.
The court sentenced him to 16 years for each of the rape charges, three years for one indecent assault, five years for another, and 15 years for each of the serious sexual assaults.
These sentences are to be served concurrently, resulting in a total prison term of 16 years.
Police officials have publicly commended the bravery of the victims who came forward to testify against Case.
The initial victim’s courage in reporting her abuse was instrumental in initiating the investigation, which subsequently uncovered additional victims.
Detective Sergeant Jason Hulbert, who led the investigation, emphasized the importance of the victims’ bravery, stating, “The bravery of the first lady who came forward led to us finding further offences against other women, spanning a period from 1964 to 1987.
All three women showed great courage in giving evidence in court and undoubtedly the great support they had from their families throughout played a big part in the successful outcome.” He also highlighted the support mechanisms in place for victims, noting that the court provided options for giving evidence via video link or from behind a screen to help reduce trauma.
Detective Hulbert added, “This case shows how the police, Crown Prosecution Service, courts, and Witness Service really want to support the survivors of sexual abuse and we will do everything we can to make sure that these offenders are brought to justice in a way that supports their victims.” Authorities continue to encourage victims of sexual assault or rape to come forward.
