ABERDEEN MAN GEORGE MCBAIN SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF TWO GIRLS
In June 2014, Aberdeen resident George McBain, aged 59, was sentenced to nine years in prison after being convicted of sexual offences involving two young girls.A judge described his actions as an "appalling course of sexual abuse," stating, "It is clear from the evidence that you subjected them to an appalling course of sexual abuse." McBain had molested one girl at a house in a North-east town between 1988 and 1989, as well as at a caravan.
The second victim was abused in 1989 at various properties in Aberdeenshire and was raped by McBain.
Previously, McBain, of Gardner Crescent, Aberdeen, faced trial on multiple charges and was found guilty of five offences, including indecent behaviour, assault, and rape.
The judge, Lord Burns, told McBain, "It is clear to me that your behaviour has made the victim’s life unbearable." He emphasized that the rape was a serious offence that warranted a "significant period of imprisonment." During the hearing, McBain’s defence solicitor, Matt Jackson, explained that his client came from a rural, farming background, remarking, "He presents as somebody who is a little bit different from the modern man." Jackson also noted that the possibility of non-custodial sentences had been considered but found to be inappropriate, calling such considerations "nonsense in this case." The judge described the evidence as "compelling" and concluded by informing McBain, "You will remain on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of your life."
