HYPNOTHERAPIST FILMED TOUCHING HIMSELF BY SCHOOLBOYS PLACED ON SEX OFFENDERS’ REGISTER
A hypnotherapist named Gary Sutherland has been involved in a criminal incident where he was filmed carrying out a sex act on himself by two schoolboys. The incident occurred in May of the year in question.
One of the teenagers noticed Sutherland's actions and recorded the event using his mobile phone.
When Sutherland realized he was being filmed, he fled the scene in his car.
The pupils subsequently shared the footage with the police, enabling authorities to identify and trace Sutherland.
During a court hearing in June, Sutherland admitted to a charge of sexually touching himself in his vehicle on Broomhill Road, Aberdeen.
It was noted that he was not charged with exposure because his act took place under a blanket.
At his sentencing, the court heard that Sutherland was under stress due to business troubles exacerbated by the Covid pandemic.
His defense agent stated that Sutherland was a self-employed hypnotherapist who was successful before the pandemic, but faced significant issues during that period, leading to his actions.
Sutherland acknowledged his wrongdoing and expressed remorse, citing embarrassment and the impact on his family and business.
The sheriff, Margaret Hodge, sentenced him to a 12-month community payback order with supervision and mandated participation in a sex offender treatment program.
Additionally, Sutherland was placed on the sex offenders’ register for one year.
The court recognized that Sutherland was a first-time offender, but emphasized the harm caused by his actions, especially given the context of impropriety and the potential for harm.
