June 2012 Limavady man ordered to sign sex offenders register A Limavady man who kissed a teenage girl has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for seven years. Edward Allen, whose address was given on court papers as Glenmore Gardens, Limavady, was convicted of sexually assaulting the 14-year-old girl after a contest at Derry Magistrate’s Court last month. The 48-year-old had denied one charge of sexual assault on May 20, last year. Defence counsel Nicola Rowntree said her client had found the allegations and the conviction by the court very difficult. She added that Allen had been “affected greatly” by the allegations. Ms Rowntree said Allen now “accepts the finding of the court” and was willing to engage with probation if the judge thought it was an appropriate sentence. District Judge Barney McElholm suspended a two month jail term for two years. He also ordered the 48-year-old to pay £500 compensation to the injured party and sign the sex offenders register for seven years.
