PAUL BROWN FROM LIMAVADY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG BOY IN BELFAST

In a case that has shocked the local community, Paul Brown, a 41-year-old man from Limavady, was sentenced to three years in prison for a prolonged period of sexual abuse involving a young boy. The incident, which spanned nearly a decade, was brought to light during a court session held at Londonderry Crown Court in Belfast.

According to court records, Brown began to establish a disturbing 'friendship' with the young victim when he was approximately nine or ten years old, around October 1988. Over the course of the next seven years, Brown engaged in inappropriate and indecent conduct towards the boy. It was clarified during the proceedings that there was no penetration involved; however, the abuse consisted of repeated acts of indecent touching, which caused significant emotional and psychological harm to the victim.

The now 25-year-old man, who has chosen to remain anonymous for legal reasons, finally reported the abuse to the authorities last May. His testimony and the evidence presented in court revealed the extent of the trauma inflicted upon him during his formative years.

Paul Brown, who resides on Carnamuff Road in Limavady, pleaded guilty to six counts of indecent assault and three additional charges of indecent conduct towards a child, covering the period from October 1988 to October 1995. His admission of guilt was a pivotal moment in the case, leading to his sentencing.

In addition to his prison sentence, Brown was ordered to serve a further two years on probation following his release. The court emphasized the seriousness of his actions and the lasting impact on the victim, underscoring the importance of justice and protection for vulnerable children in the community.
