GEORGE MOORE FROM LIMAVADY SENTENCED FOR RAPE AND FRAUD CHARGES IN DERRY

In a significant legal development in Limavady, a man named George Victor Moore, aged 31, was formally sentenced to six years in prison at Derry Crown Court after pleading guilty to the serious charge of raping a teenage girl. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the incident, which took place on August 8th, 1980, at New Line Road.

According to court records, the victim, an 18-year-old woman, was subjected to a brutal assault that involved her being forcibly thrown over a fence into a ploughed field. This assault marked the occurrence of the rape, which Moore later admitted to committing. The court heard that Moore, an unemployed miller with no fixed address at the time, was residing at Drumceatt Park in Limavady prior to his arrest. It was also noted that he had recently returned from Scotland, coinciding with the death of his father, which may have contributed to his emotional state at the time.

In addition to the rape charge, Moore faced four counts of obtaining goods by deception, which he committed in October 1980. These charges involved fraudulent activities aimed at acquiring goods through dishonest means. Moore admitted to these charges as well, and the court sentenced him to two years imprisonment for each of these deception-related offenses. Importantly, the court ordered that all sentences run concurrently, meaning he will serve the six-year term for the rape and the two-year terms for the deception charges simultaneously.
