DUNCAN GUYAN FROM ABERDEEN FACES SERIOUS CHARGES OVER CHILD PORNOGRAPHY AND ABUSE CASES
In a case that has sent shockwaves through the Aberdeen community, Duncan Guyan, a 53-year-old man from Eday Gardens, was brought before Aberdeen Sheriff Court to face charges related to the possession of a vast collection of indecent images of children, as well as allegations of sexual abuse involving a young girl.Police raids on Guyan’s residence uncovered an alarming cache of over 7,000 indecent images of children, some of which were duplicates, downloaded from the internet.
The sheer volume of material found highlighted the severity of the case, prompting immediate legal action.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Guyan was wheelchair-bound, a detail that Sheriff Graeme Napier acknowledged but emphasized would not mitigate the seriousness of the offenses.
Guyan pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including intentionally causing a girl to participate in a sexual activity by showering with her on more than one occasion over a span of two years.
He also admitted to taking, permitting to be taken, or making indecent images or pseudo images of children over a period exceeding three and a half years.
The court was informed that the images included videos and photographs, some of which depicted the girl partially clothed and holding a camera, with Guyan present in three of the videos, either in the background or heard speaking.
The investigation was initiated after a report was made concerning the shower incident.
During police interviews, the young girl referenced video footage recorded using a Nintendo console.
A search of Guyan’s home yielded four videos featuring the girl, stored on an SD card within the Nintendo device.
These videos showed her in a partially clothed state, with some footage capturing her holding the camera, and Guyan appearing in the background or speaking in the clips.
Further examination of Guyan’s electronic devices uncovered a significant number of deleted indecent images, adding to the evidence against him.
The total number of images found was approximately 7,840, although some were duplicates.
The images were classified primarily as Category C, indicating the least serious level of indecency, but their possession and distribution remain criminal offenses.
During the court hearing, Sheriff Napier warned Guyan that his physical condition, being in a wheelchair, would not prevent a custodial sentence if the court deemed it appropriate.
The sheriff emphasized the gravity of the charges, stating, “The fact you are in a wheelchair does not mean you will not be sent to prison.
This is very serious offending.” As part of the legal process, Guyan was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for a period of three years and was also subjected to the notification requirements under the Sex Offences Act.
The court decided to keep him on bail until his sentencing hearing scheduled for June, but made it clear that the case was being taken very seriously and that a custodial sentence was a real possibility given the nature of the offenses.
