ABERDEEN WOMAN JAILED FOR DAYLIGHT ASSAULT AND RACIAL ABUSE
A woman named Dionne Laurie has been sentenced to jail following her involvement in a disturbing assault in Aberdeen city centre.
She carried out a daylight attack on a 92-year-old man, who was sitting peacefully on a bench at Castlegate, by pelting him with food.
When the elderly man tried to walk away, Laurie aggressively followed him, swinging her arms at him.
The incident happened around 5pm on April 20.
Later, police found Laurie unconscious in the city centre, appearing to be under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and she was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
While at the hospital, she became aggressive and attempted to bite a female police officer, kicking out and making racial abuse comments.
She called officers 'monkeys' and made other racist remarks while being booked in at the police station.
Laurie pleaded guilty to charges of assault, assaulting an officer, and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Despite her claims of no recollection and her remorse, the sheriff noted her extensive criminal record and concerns over her ability to follow a community sentence.
Consequently, Laurie was jailed for 135 days.
