DEREK ROBINSON FROM CROYDON, POUNDSWICH, AND WYTHENSHAWE JAILED FOR RAPE OF YOUNG GIRLS

In a disturbing case that has shocked the local communities, Derek Robinson, a 63-year-old man with connections to Croydon, Poundswich, and Wythenshawe, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against two young girls. The crimes, which spanned over several years, involved the abuse of a girl aged six and another aged eight, with the incidents occurring between 1985 and 1993.

Robinson, who resided on Robertscroft Close in Poundswich, used manipulative tactics to lure the children into his grasp. He would often present gifts, toys, and sweets as a means of gaining their trust before subjecting them to sexual assault. The court found him guilty of multiple charges, including rape, three counts of gross indecency, and eight counts of indecent assault, following a detailed trial at Manchester Crown Court.

Detective Constable Jane Naylor, from West Didsbury CID, provided a statement emphasizing the severity of the crimes. She remarked, “Robinson committed the most appalling abuse on two young girls over a prolonged period of time. He struck when they were alone and too young and scared to report the abuse or fully understand what was happening to them.”

She also praised the bravery of the victims, stating, “The women have been incredibly brave in reporting the abuse, and I must give them extra credit for finding the strength to give evidence at court because, thanks to their evidence, Robinson is now in prison where he belongs.”

Greater Manchester Police reaffirmed their commitment to thoroughly investigating all reports of sexual abuse, regardless of when the incidents occurred or the age of the victims. The force has specially trained officers dedicated to supporting victims throughout the criminal justice process and beyond, ensuring that justice is served and victims are protected.
