April 2017 Member of police staff sentenced for theft and possession of indecent images A paedophile based at Croydon Police Station stole mobile phones and 300 rounds of shotgun ammunition seized during the investigation into the 2010 Pakistan cricket spot fixing scandal. Adrian Milton, from Selsdon, marked the ammunition and mobile phones as “destroyed” in Metropolitan Police records, but they were discovered as part of a raid by the force’s gangs unit last year. When police raided the 48-year-old’s home, in Swallowdale, they found a stash of thousands of images and videos of extreme child sexual abuse, featuring girls as young as three, on two hard drives. Milton was jailed for two years and eight months at Croydon Crown Court today (Friday, April 21) after he admitted theft and possession of animal and indecent images of children Judge Warwick McKinnon described the content of the images as “about as bad as it can get”. He said that the circumstances in which Milton stole the ammunition and phones amounted to the “grossest breach of trust that there could be”. “And the harm that could result from those shotgun cartridges getting into the wrong hands is the mischief here,” Judge McKinnon added. Prosecutor Carol Fern said Milton, who has worked as a civilian employee for the Met since 2005, was in charge of a custody store – where criminal exhibits are kept – at Croydon Police Station, in Park Lane. His thefts – thought to have happened in 2013 – were not uncovered until March 2016, when police from the Met’s gangs unit raided the home of Nicholas Onisiforou in Beckenham. They found three shotguns in Onisiforou’s home as well as the 300 rounds of shotgun ammunition in a holdall bag in a car outside. Prosecutor Carol Fern said during the raid investigators also found a number of police-issue items bearing Milton’s name. She said there was a trail of mobile phone contact between Milton and Onisiforou in the weeks leading up to the raid. The pair, she added, were “close friends” and Milton had lodged with Onisiforou in his Beckenham home. Onisiforou was jailed for five years for possession of the shotguns at Croydon Crown Court in February. The shotgun cartridges had been seized by the Met back in 2010 when officers raided the home of Mazhar Majeed, the former owner of Croydon Athletic FC, as part of their investigation into a spot-fixing scandal involving Majeed and three Pakistan cricketers. Investigators were able to prove it was the same ammunition as it had been marked forensically when it was first seized. When they checked back through records, it emerged Milton had only marked them as destroyed on a computer system in 2013, rather than also doing it on a separate paper system that was supposed to be co-signed by a colleague “He was meant to send those rounds to be destroyed, rather, they were found in the front seat of his friend’s car three years later,” said Mrs Fern. When police checked the hard drives on computers owned by Milton after his arrest, they discovered a total of 2,554 illegal porn pictures and videos among a larger porn stash. Eight of the images were of “extreme porn”, while many of the 446 most serious images and videos showed young girls “in some distress” being raped and forced to perform sex acts. Some of the images contained acts of bestiality, while others were “pseudo-images” of child porn, the court heard. In passing sentence, Judge McKinnon told Milton: “You are a man who has worked hard, always been employed and to all intents and purposes until these matters came about, a respectful member of the community and so there’s a very substantial fall from grace.” Milton admitted one count of theft by an employee relating to the mobile phones and shotgun cartridges, for which he was sentenced to two years in jail, reduced from three years due to his early guilty plea. For five counts of possessing extreme and child porn, he was sentenced to a total of eight months, to run consecutively with the two years for theft. He was also made subject to a sexual harm prevention order, which prohibits him from owning devices capable of accessing the internet without police checks for five years, and will be forced to sign the Sex Offender Register for a period of 10 years. March 2017 Croydon police employee pleads guilty to possessing indecent images of children A Croydon-based police property officer has pleaded guilty to six offences including possessing indecent photographs of children. After being arrested three times last year for a number of crimes, Adrian Milton will be sentenced at Croydon Crown Court on April 18. On top of four counts of possessing indecent images of children, the 48 year-old was also charged with possessing extreme pornography as well as theft, in relation to shotgun ammunition and mobile phones believed to have been stolen from a criminal exhibits store. Milton was initially arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) at his workplace, Croydon Police Station, in March last year before being arrested again in June and August. After being charged on February 9, he appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court earlier this month where he pleaded guilty to the six offences. He remains suspended from duty.
