ABERDEEN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO DOMESTIC ASSAULT AFTER CHOKING PARTNER DURING ALCOHOL-FUELED INCIDENT
A man named Deividas Rudzevicius has been involved in an incident of domestic abuse where he was abusive to his partner over nearly a year, which included acts of verbally insulting her and physically attacking her.Rudzevicius appeared before Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted to using offensive language and slapping the woman during an 11-month period.
The situation escalated on one occasion when he pushed his girlfriend onto a bed and restrained her by grabbing her by the neck, restricting her breathing.
The court learned that this incident coincided with them sharing 70 cans of beer that night.
Rudzevicius pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting his partner in an aggressive manner, making offensive comments, and restricting her breathing from March 1 last year to February 5 this year.
The prosecution described how Rudzevicius had been verbally abusive, calling his partner derogatory names like "bitch" and "slut," and making threats of assault.
The violent episode on February 5 involved him pushing her onto the bed and choking her, after which the police were called and he was arrested.
The court considered the incident distasteful but acknowledged him as a first-time offender who was intoxicated at the time.
As a sentence, Rudzevicius received a community payback order with 12 months of supervision, rather than imprisonment, in recognition of his guilty plea and remorse.
The court emphasized its disapproval of the behaviour to protect the public from such conduct.
