ABERDEEN OFFENDER JAILED FOR SEVERE ASSAULT OVER £40 DISPUTE
A man named David Dalgarno was convicted of serious assault after an incident at a flat in Torry, where he turned violent over a dispute about £40.Dalgarno initially visited the property in the evening, leaving shortly after.
However, around 2 am, he returned unexpectedly while angry and accused his friend of owing him £40.
During the attack, Dalgarno smashed a glass vase across the victim's face, then used a fishing rod to whip him multiple times.
The victim curled into a ball to protect himself, but Dalgarno continued the assault by kicking him repeatedly in the stomach, causing severe internal injuries including lacerations to the spleen and internal bleeding that was potentially fatal.
The victim was taken to hospital where scans confirmed life-threatening injuries, and he received a blood transfusion and treatment to prevent the removal of his spleen.
Dalgarno was seen leaving the scene, and blood evidence was recovered from the fishing rod, vase, and his clothing.
Dalgarno admitted to the assault, as well as failing to comply with bail conditions and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
He pled guilty to assault causing severe injury, permanent disfigurement, and danger to life.
The court sentenced him to 38 months imprisonment and imposed a 12-month supervised release order.
The judge described Dalgarno dismissively, saying “As criminals go, he’s pathetic.”
