NIGHTCLUB ATTACKER ESCAPES JAIL DESPITE VIOLENT OUTBURST AND PTSD
A violent nightclub sex attacker has narrowly avoided incarceration after the court was informed he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder following his service in Afghanistan.Daniel Rougvie, aged 33, was convicted of grabbing a woman's bottom on the dancefloor of Prohibition nightclub and then brutally assaulting her boyfriend, even telling one police officer, “I want to bite your throat”.
He also admitted to possessing knuckledusters, threatening officers, and resisting arrest.
The incident occurred in February 2019, when police were called to the nightclub following a fight, during which Rougvie inflicted a deep facial laceration on a woman.
Police found knuckledusters in his pocket, and he became aggressive at the police station, declaring, “I want to rip your face off” and “I want to bite your throat off”.
During arrest procedures, Rougvie lunged at an officer with an open mouth, attempting to bite.
The court was told he had served in Afghanistan, which contributed to his mental health issues.
Defense counsel highlighted his troubled state and past drug use.
Sheriff William Summers sentenced Rougvie to a community payback order with three years' supervision and 300 hours of unpaid work, alongside a three-year period on the sex offenders register.
The court emphasized that the mental health issues stemming from his military service played a role in his conduct.
