DANIEL BARTLETT, A DONCASTER SEX OFFENDER, SENTENCED FOR BREACHING COURT ORDER IN SOUTH YORKSHIRE
A sex offender from Doncaster who deliberately violated a court order intended to prevent him from committing future sexual offences has been sentenced to prison.Judge Rachael Harrison sentenced Daniel Bartlett to 26 months in prison and described his behaviour as a intentional, planned breach of the court’s restrictions.
During a hearing at Sheffield Crown Court on March 9, it was revealed that Bartlett, aged 41, was previously sentenced in August 2020 to six months in jail, suspended for two years, after being convicted of communicating sexually with a 12-year-old girl.
He was also subject to a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO), which aimed to protect the public from sexual wrongdoing.
Under the terms of the SHPO, Bartlett was required to comply with various conditions, including surrendering any internet-enabled devices when asked by police.
Prosecutor Stuart Bell explained that police visited Bartlett on May 11 last year and asked him for his internet devices.
Bartlett claimed he only owned a mobile phone, which he then switched off immediately after handing it over.
He was again visited by police on September 16, when he handed over another mobile phone and stated he had no other devices.
However, on November 17, Bartlett was arrested on suspicion of breaching the SHPO and was found to possess five internet-enabled mobile phones.
Judge Harrison noted that Bartlett had been using these devices to communicate with others regarding sexual activity, and expressed particular concern about his contact with two women with children—one of whom had a 15-month-old baby.
Bartlett, residing on Bainbridge Road in Balby, Doncaster, admitted to breaching the sexual harm prevention order and failing to comply with notification requirements during an earlier hearing.
Defence solicitor Edward Moss remarked that Bartlett’s life had been significantly impacted by his offences.
Ultimately, Judge Harrison reactivated four months of Bartlett’s suspended sentence from August 2020 and added an additional 22 months for his recent breaches, resulting in a total sentence of 26 months in prison.
