ABERDEEN MAN JAILED FOR THROWING HOT TEA IN GIRLFRIEND'S FACE
A man named Dane Bower, aged 35, was sentenced in Aberdeen Sheriff Court after he admitted to assaulting his long-term partner by throwing hot tea in her face. The incident occurred on August 20 at his residence on Balnagask Crescent.
The court was informed that Bower’s mood changed immediately after being handed the mug by his partner.
He then asked, “Is there sugar in this?” before unexpectedly throwing the hot beverage at her, covering her head and hair.
Sheriff Margaret Hodge described this attack as “an astonishing overreaction.” The woman, who was present during the assault, ran into the kitchen and poured cold water over herself to soothe the burn.
A friend was also present and assisted in calming her down and helping her leave the scene.
The court heard that Bower did not sustain any major injuries and was later taken into police custody.
During the court hearing, his defense lawyer Graham Morrison stated that Bower had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity, expressing remorse and shame for his actions, especially since it was directed at someone he cares about.
Sheriff Margaret Hodge sentenced him to seven days in prison as an alternative to a fine, noting that Bower was already in custody on another matter.
The judge also remarked that if the tea had been hot, the woman would have been seriously injured.
Bower's behavior was characterized as “not his proudest moment,” and he was described as ashamed of his actions.
