CHARLES ALGEO ATTACKS TEENAGE GIRL AT DUNFERMLINE RAILWAY STATION
In a disturbing incident at Inverkeithing railway station, Charles Algeo, a 52-year-old employee of ScotRail, was involved in an unprovoked assault on a 15-year-old girl. The assault occurred in May of this year, while Algeo was performing his duties at the station in Dunfermline.According to court proceedings, the altercation was initiated after the girl and her friends were walking across a bridge at the station. During this time, Algeo reportedly knocked into one of the girls’ friends, which prompted a confrontational response from the teenager. Prosecutor Amy Robertson detailed that the girl, reacting aggressively, shouted, 'f***ing try it, e,' and followed Algeo, kicking out at him with her leg.
In response, Algeo turned around, seized the girl, and forcefully pulled her to the ground. While she was face down, he struck her on the back of her head with his fist. When she attempted to stand up, Algeo pushed her back down, causing her jaw to hit the ground. The girl’s friends, witnessing the escalation, shouted at Algeo to cease his actions and intervene.
After the assault, the girls remained at the scene with another member of the public until help arrived, and police were called to the station. It was established that Algeo, who was on duty as part of the ScotRail station staff, responded to the initial kicking out by the girl, but then proceeded to assault her.
Medical examinations confirmed that the girl sustained a cut on her head and a concussion. She also reported feeling a chipped tooth, although it was not visibly apparent. The incident left her visibly injured and distressed.
Charles Algeo subsequently pleaded guilty to the assault at Inverkeithing station. The court has deferred sentencing until December 21 to allow for the preparation of background reports, which will likely consider his previous conduct and any mitigating factors. The case highlights concerns over safety and conduct at railway stations in the Dunfermline area, raising questions about the responsibilities of staff and the protection of young passengers in public transport environments.
