ABERDEEN MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO DOMESTIC ABUSE AND HARASSMENT
A man named Cameron Scott, aged 24, has admitted to engaging in abusive behavior towards his former partner. He appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to two charges of conduct that caused his ex-partner to feel fear or alarm during the months of June to August 2018.
His actions included turning up uninvited at her workplace, acting aggressively, and publicly criticizing her clothing choices, specifically her new 'emo boots.' He also confessed to repeatedly messaging her and behaving abusively by using derogatory language, both before and after their breakup.
The court heard that their long-term relationship had broken down due to numerous disagreements.
On one occasion, Scott, during a visit to return personal belongings, became furious, pulled out her car keys, and threw a parcel shelf into a field.
He later arrived at her workplace uninvited, and during a visit to her parents' house, he exited the house and engaged in an argument, then stood in front of her car to prevent her from leaving.
During a shopping trip, Scott commented negatively about her boots, saying he wouldn't go out with her if she wore them, prompting her to return the boots.
The relationship was officially ended in December 2019, but Scott continued to harass her with messages and by turning up at her home after a night out.
Police were involved, leading to his caution and arrest.
The defense attorney described Scott's conduct as 'unpleasant' but not seriously troubling over time, noting that the two had not been in contact for over a year and a half.
However, Sheriff Philip Mann condemned Scott’s behavior, stating that it was unacceptable and warned him to change his ways.
The court sentenced Scott to a community payback order with a year of supervision.
