BRUNO LOPES FROM NORTHAMPTON WANTED IN PORTUGAL AFTER AMASSING OVER 9,500 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In May 2021, authorities issued a warrant for the arrest of Bruno Lopes, a Portuguese national who was residing as a lodger in Northampton, after it was discovered that he had accumulated an alarming collection of over 9,500 indecent images of children.The investigation traced his illegal online activities back to an address on Gibson Lane in Northampton, leading to his arrest in 2017.
Following his detention, Lopes returned to Portugal, but the legal proceedings in the UK continued to unfold.
Initially, police mistakenly arrested the homeowner of the Northampton property, believing he was responsible for the illicit material.
It was only after further investigation that officers learned Lopes was the actual occupant of the residence and the individual behind the disturbing online content.
When Lopes was confronted upon his return to Portugal, he did not deny his involvement.
Instead, he immediately confessed to the authorities and explicitly told police that the evidence they sought would be found on his computer.
