BRIAN MORRISON ABERDEEN SEX OFFENDER BREACHES COURT ORDER AND IS JAILED

In November 2014, a disturbing incident unfolded in Aberdeen involving Brian Morrison, a known sex offender, who was found to have violated a court-imposed restriction designed to protect children from his contact.

Morrison, aged 53 and currently held at HMP Grampian, appeared before Aberdeen Sheriff Court to face charges of breaching a sexual offences prevention order.

The order explicitly prohibited him from approaching, communicating with, or having any form of contact with any child under the age of 17, unless such contact was unavoidable.

The breach occurred between May 1, 2014, and June 30, 2014, during which Morrison was observed making a sexual gesture towards a teenage girl at an address in Aberdeen.

This act was deemed a gross violation of the court’s order and was considered highly offensive.

The court was informed that Morrison’s actions included a gesture that was clearly sexual in nature, directed at a minor, which prompted immediate legal consequences.

During the hearing, Morrison’s defense lawyer, Paul Barnett, acknowledged that his client had a history of convictions related to sexual offences.

However, Barnett emphasized that there had been no significant offending since 2005, suggesting a period of relative compliance.

Despite this, Sheriff William Summers made it clear that the gesture Morrison made was unacceptable and warranted a custodial sentence.

The sheriff stated that there was no alternative but to impose a jail term, reflecting the seriousness of the breach and the need to uphold the court’s protective orders.

Looking back at Morrison’s criminal history, it is evident that he has a long-standing pattern of sexual misconduct.

In June 2005, Morrison, then aged 44, was sentenced to three years and eight months in prison for sexually abusing three young girls, one of whom was only 10 years old.

His criminal record also includes a prior conviction in 1984, where he was ordered to complete 150 hours of community service for sexual offences against a girl.

Additionally, eight years prior to the 2005 case, Morrison was placed on a three-year probation after being found guilty of three charges of indecent assault involving three boys.

Throughout his legal proceedings, Morrison maintained his innocence, asserting that he was unfairly targeted.

His defense advocate, David Moggach, argued that Morrison’s life had become increasingly difficult in the Mastrick area of Aberdeen prior to his detention.

Moggach described Morrison as being known locally as the “local paedophile,” a reputation that had subjected him to rumors, gossip, and even vandalism, including damage to his vehicle, which Morrison believed was related to the trial.

Furthermore, Moggach explained that the young girls involved in the recent incident had voluntarily gone to Morrison’s residence, which he claimed was the reason for the breach of bail conditions.

The lawyer also highlighted that Morrison’s relationship with his current wife had been strained due to previous convictions, which initially prevented him from having contact with his stepchildren.

However, after assessments by social workers and a psychiatrist from Cornhill Hospital, Morrison was deemed fit to have full access to his stepchildren, who were not the victims of his past offences.

Following the court’s decision, Morrison was registered as a sex offender, a measure that aims to monitor and restrict his activities to prevent further harm.

The sentencing drew criticism from Morrison’s mother-in-law, who expressed her belief that the punishment was insufficient given the gravity of his actions and history.

The case underscores ongoing concerns about the management and supervision of individuals with a history of sexual offences, especially those who breach court orders designed to safeguard vulnerable children in Aberdeen.
