BOBBY RENSHAW FROM SHEFFIELD SENTENCED AFTER CHILLING ASSAULT ON TEEN GIRL IN BURNGREAVE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Sheffield community, 23-year-old Bobby Renshaw from Burngreave was convicted of a serious sexual assault involving a teenage girl.The incident took place in May 2019 at Renshaw's residence on Burngreave Road, where the victim, a 16-year-old girl and a friend of Renshaw, had come over to watch television.
According to court proceedings, Renshaw's behavior quickly turned aggressive and inappropriate.
Prosecutor James Baird detailed that Renshaw attempted to kiss and bite the girl’s neck, and made an unwelcome move to put his hand down her leggings.
The situation escalated further when Renshaw, allegedly asserting dominance, told the girl that he gets what he wants when he desires it, and declared, “my house my rules.” He also ominously warned her that by the end of the night, he would be “doing ten years.” During the assault, the girl recounted that Renshaw tried to pin her down.
When she attempted to push away his dog, he responded with violence, headbutting her and grabbing her hair.
The situation worsened as Renshaw continued trying to pull her leggings down, and he engaged in masturbation, ejaculating onto her T-shirt.
The victim, who cannot be publicly identified due to legal restrictions, has since reported suffering from mental health issues, including anxiety, and feels increasingly nervous around unfamiliar people.
Judge Mr.
Justice Martin Spencer addressed the court, emphasizing the importance of respecting young girls and the need for clear consequences when boundaries are violated.
He stated, “A message needs to go out that young girls need to be respected and when they say ‘no’ that should be accepted.” Despite Renshaw’s defense lawyer’s arguments, the judge concluded that a custodial sentence was necessary, citing Renshaw’s prior convictions.
Renshaw was sentenced to six months in prison.
During the hearing, he expressed remorse, saying, “I know I did wrong and I know I should respect women but I don’t think I should go to prison.
I need help.
No one has ever tried to help me.” It is also noted that Renshaw has a history of criminal behavior, including an incident last year when he was caught with 7.25 grams of the drug ‘spice’ outside a B&M store in Doncaster town centre, indicating ongoing issues with substance abuse and criminal activity.
The case highlights ongoing concerns about the safety of young women and the importance of accountability for offenders in Sheffield and beyond.
