ABERDEEN MAN JAILED AFTER KNIFE THREAT AND VIOLENT RAMPAGE AGAINST EX-PARTNER
A knife-wielding man named Aurimas Samalkis has been sentenced after a violent incident where he threatened and chased his ex-partner while holding a young child. The incident occurred on January 12 in Aberdeen when his partner, after breaking up with him, confronted him about his alcohol consumption.
According to prosecutor David Ballock, "The complainer believed the accused was under the influence and she confronted him about his alcohol consumption," which led to him becoming aggressive.
Samalkis pushed her onto a cupboard and held a knife against her neck, demanding she call her family and tell them not to contact the police.
Despite her compliance, he continued to threaten her, holding the knife against her for several minutes.
After he put the knife down, he picked up a child and again became violent upon hearing police sirens.
Officers entered the house and Samalkis, clutching both the child and a small wooden-handled knife, became confrontational, shouting and swearing.
He produced the knife in one hand and presented a threat to officers, who then used incapacitant spray to subdue him.
During transport to the police station, he made homophobic comments, threatened violence, and damaged police property.
His ex suffered a cut to her head, which required medical attention, and the child was exposed to the spray but remained unharmed.
Samalkis pleaded guilty to charges of assault causing injury and threatening behavior.
His defense team described the incident as a "cry for help", noting his alcohol misuse and mental health issues.
The sheriff jailed him for 29 months, with a 12-month supervised release, and imposed a three-year non-harassment order with conditions.
The court acknowledged the incident was extremely distressing for the victim and the child, and determined a custodial sentence was necessary.
