ABERDEEN OFFSHORE WORKER SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT AND PUBLIC DISTURBANCE
An offshore worker named Anthony Christie has been sentenced after he followed two vulnerable women home from an Aberdeen pub, entered their residence without permission, and removed all his clothes.Christie, who claimed he "misread" the situation, stripped naked and engaged in inappropriate behavior in front of the women.
The incident occurred after Christie approached the women as they played pool at the Brig O’ Dee Bar around 4 pm on May 11 of the previous year.
When the women, both suffering from Asperger’s and speech problems, left the pub and became aware of Christie following them, he approached them again outside their flat.
One of the women opened the door, and as she held it open for the other, Christie entered uninvited.
Sitting with them, Christie asked to remove his top despite being told no, placed his hand on one woman’s leg, and expressed a desire to have sex.
Ignoring their refusals, he stripped naked and touched his private parts in front of them, repeatedly asking for sex.
The women, feeling unable to ask him to leave due to their vulnerabilities, were distressed but reported the incident to police after returning to the pub with help from staff.
Christie pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual assault.
During proceedings, his lawyer explained that Christie was intoxicated and had little recollection of the events, showing CCTV footage which almost blocked his memory of the incident.
The sheriff described Christie's actions as serious and sentenced him to 20 months in prison, placing him on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
