AMARJIT SINGH SHOCKS GLASGOW WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT ON SCHOOLGIRLS ON BUS IN CLYDEBANK

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Glasgow community, Amarjit Singh, a 42-year-old man from Knightswood, was convicted of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl and attempting to attack an 11-year-old girl during a bus journey in Clydebank.

The incident, which took place on November 20 along Dumbarton Road, involved Singh placing his hand inside the 16-year-old's skirt and groping her buttocks, actions that constitute serious sexual misconduct.

Adding to the gravity of his crimes, Singh also made an attempt to sexually assault the younger girl by trying to touch her over her clothing during the same bus ride.

Both victims were dressed in their school uniforms at the time, highlighting the brazen and unacceptable nature of Singh’s actions while they were simply commuting to or from school.

Singh’s criminal behavior was brought before the court after he pleaded guilty to the charges on January 30, following a reduction in the severity of the initial allegations by the Crown.

His sentencing was delayed until recently due to the unavailability of a background report, but he ultimately appeared from custody at Dumbarton Sheriff Court on a Friday.

The court proceedings revealed that Singh’s eight-month prison sentence was backdated to November 22, the date he was first remanded in custody.

Since he had already served four months behind bars, Singh is now eligible for early release.

During the hearing, Singh’s solicitor, Brian McGuire, acknowledged his client’s situation, stating, “He was initially remanded in custody on November 22, when he appeared on this matter on petition.

The inevitable consequence of this is that a custodial sentence will be imposed, and he accepts that position.” McGuire also highlighted Singh’s health issues, noting that he suffers from seizures triggered by excessive alcohol consumption.

Despite this, Singh reportedly attempted to manage his condition by drinking more alcohol, a course of action that courts and health professionals would find concerning.

Prosecutor Sarah Healing informed the court that the Crown was seeking a sexual offences prevention order against Singh.

This order would prohibit him from contacting or being in the company of any child under 18, except in cases where such contact is incidental or unavoidable during daily activities, and only if supervised by an adult aged 21 or older.

The court granted this request, and the order will remain in effect for ten years, coinciding with the period Singh is required to report to authorities under sex offender legislation.

In delivering his judgment, Sheriff John Hamilton emphasized the seriousness of Singh’s actions, stating, “These offences were serious in nature and must have caused great distress to the young girls concerned, those they were with, and their families.

It is significant that this incident happened on public transport.

These were girls in uniform who were quite properly going to or from school and should not have been subjected to such behaviour.” He also criticized Singh’s illogical response to his health issues, remarking, “I’m concerned about the rather illogical position you take whereby you were having seizures brought on by alcohol and dealt with them by drinking more alcohol.

That cannot have been a sensible course of action.” Ultimately, Singh was sentenced to eight months in prison, a reduction from the original 12 months due to his early guilty plea.

His sentence was backdated to November 22, ensuring that he has already served part of his time in custody, and he remains subject to the court’s orders and restrictions for the foreseeable future.
