ABERDEEN MAN CONVICTED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT AFTER NIGHTTIME ENCOUNTER WITH TENANT
A woman awoke disoriented in the dead of night to find her landlord sexually assaulting her, a court's testimony revealed.Alastair Robertson, aged 63, secretly entered the woman’s bed while she was asleep, climbed on top of her, and touched her private parts before demanding sex, as reported in court.When the woman, horrified, jumped out of bed and questioned his actions, Robertson callously blamed her for being a 'tease' and told her that if she reported him, 'no one would believe her'.Despite his threats, the woman later recorded a telephone conversation in which Robertson admitted his wrongdoing, saying, 'I winna touch you again, right, ever.I’m nae even lying.'After reporting the incident to police, Robertson was cautioned, arrested, and placed under bail conditions to stay away from her.
Nevertheless, he called her twice more, professing love, which led her to contact the authorities again.
During police interviews, Robertson admitted sexually assaulting her.Further disturbing events occurred when, on October 22 of the previous year, the woman went to Robertson’s home to retrieve belongings.
He answered with one hand behind his back and shouted that she was taking her away from him.
He then called her a 'slut' and used a hammer to smash the walls of his house in a rage.In court, Robertson pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual assault, two charges of breaching bail conditions, and one count of threatening or abusive behavior towards the same woman.The defendant's lawyer highlighted Robertson’s poor 'cognitive function and memory recall' due to a psychological assessment, and noted that he was experiencing a relapse after 18 years of abstinence from alcohol.
The lawyer acknowledged that Robertson's actions were wrong but emphasized his lack of intent to minimize his behavior.Sheriff Philip Mann condemned Robertson’s actions, stating, 'It was totally uncalled for, completely wrong and no doubt caused stress to the young lady.' Instead of jail, Robertson received a community payback order involving supervision for two years and 200 hours of unpaid work, along with a two-year registration on the sex offenders register.Robertson's address is listed as St Ninian’s Place, Aberdeen.
