ALAN MASSON FROM ABERDEEN AND STONEHAVEN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OUTSIDE ABERDEEN PUB
A man identified as Alan Masson, with connections to both Stonehaven and Aberdeen, has been officially placed on the sex offenders register following a conviction for sexual assault that took place outside a pub in Aberdeen. The incident, which has garnered significant attention, occurred on December 6 of the previous year and was captured on CCTV footage, providing clear evidence of the event.
According to court records, Masson, aged 54, was heavily intoxicated at the time of the assault.
The incident involved him making inappropriate physical contact with a woman, specifically touching her breast in what he later described as a 'crass attempt at humour.' The court heard that the assault happened outside a pub located on Exchange Street, a well-known area in Aberdeen.
When police officers initially questioned him about the incident, Masson claimed to have no memory of it.
However, after further questioning, he acknowledged his actions with a simple response: “Oh yes, that’s right.” During the court proceedings, Masson’s solicitor attempted to mitigate his actions by characterizing them as a misguided attempt at humor, emphasizing that there was no malicious intent to harm.
Nonetheless, the law held him accountable for his actions, and the court did not accept the defense's argument.
Sheriff Kevin Duffy made it clear that being intoxicated does not serve as an excuse for such behavior and stressed that the incident should serve as a warning to others.
As part of his sentence, Masson was ordered to complete a community payback order with supervision for a period of six months.
Additionally, he was registered as a sex offender for the same duration, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct.
Sheriff Duffy described the incident as 'unfortunate' and noted that Masson had expressed remorse and regret for his actions.
The sheriff also pointed out that this case should serve as a cautionary tale, highlighting the importance of personal responsibility regardless of intoxication or circumstances.
