September 2015 Man, 21, caught with indecent images of young children on computer and tablet PERVERT Adam Martin downloaded more than 2,000 indecent images of children on his computer and tablet. The 21-year-old was arrested after police raided his home and seized the equipment. Martin had deleted images but accepted he had downloaded the indecent material of young children. Now he has been handed a three-year community order at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. The judge believes he needs supervision to ensure he does not re-offend. Prosecutor Joanne Wallbanks said police raided Martin’s home on March 27 last year. Miss Wallbanks said: “A computer and tablet were seized and the images were recovered from these. There were a number of deleted images.” In his police interview Martin said he had deleted some images that morning but accepted he had downloaded them. Miss Wallbanks added: “There were images of pre and post-pubescent children. There were deliberate and persistent searches on his computer. He received and shared them on chatrooms.” Martin, of Acton Street, Birches Head, pleaded guilty to seven offences of making indecent images of children between January 1, 2009 and March 28, 2014. Robert Holt, mitigating, said Martin, who has no previous convictions, did not try to blame others. He conceded that his client was ‘extremely lucky’ not to be charged with distributing images. Mr Holt added: “He offers his full remorse. He is embarrassed, ashamed and disgusted for himself and the problems he has caused for his family.” Judge Paul Glenn sentenced Martin to a three-year community order with three years supervision and a requirement to complete a sex offender group work programme. The judge said: “The appropriate sentence would have been six months. You would have served no more than half, probably about six weeks, and released in society without the formal supervision. I think you need to make sure you do not come back before a court again.” Judge Glenn said the 18 months delay in the case progressing to sentence was no fault of Martin’s, and that in itself was a degree of punishment. He added: “The police found a quite significant amount of class A and class B material on two devices. They also found plain evidence you had been searching actively for that sort of material and you had been corresponding with like-minded individuals over the internet. “I suspect it has now dawned on you just how serious these offences are and why courts take them so seriously.”
