November 2019 Former police officer placed on national barred list A former police officer who was jailed for assaulting a 15-year-old boy has been placed on a national barred list preventing him from working in policing again following a special case hearing held today. Former officer Adam Kitchener, aged 36, was jailed for 14 weeks at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on 22 October after admitting assaulting the boy during an arrest in Marsh Street, Bristol, in the early hours of 31 March. The assault came to light following an internal complaint made by a colleague who witnessed the assault and a further complaint from the boy’s family. Although regulations allow an officer to resign while under investigation for gross misconduct, the misconduct process still continues. Today’s special case hearing, held at Police HQ, was chaired by Chief Constable Andy Marsh who concluded the allegations of gross misconduct were proven. The former officer would have been dismissed if he hadn’t previously resigned. As a result of this outcome, he’ll be placed on the National College of Policing’s Barred List preventing him from working within policing and certain law enforcement bodies.
