ZAHEER ABBAS FROM PETERBOROUGH SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In a case that has shocked the community of Peterborough, Zaheer Abbas, a 30-year-old man residing on Harris Street, has been sentenced to prison for engaging in a sexual relationship with a minor. The incident, which spanned over a period starting in 2010, involved Abbas manipulating and controlling a 15-year-old girl, leading to a series of troubling events that culminated in his arrest and conviction.

According to court records, Abbas initiated a relationship with the young girl when she was just 15 years old. Over time, he took her to various hotels across the county of Peterborough, engaging in sexual activities that he later claimed were consensual. However, the girl eventually came forward to law enforcement authorities, alleging that Abbas had raped and assaulted her during an incident at a hotel earlier this year. Her bravery in reporting the abuse was instrumental in bringing the case to court.

Following her allegations, Abbas was swiftly arrested and brought before Peterborough Crown Court. During the trial, he was found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of 16. The court, however, cleared him of charges related to rape and causing actual bodily harm, indicating that the evidence did not support those specific accusations.

On Monday, July 1, Abbas was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. In addition to his incarceration, he was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register, a measure designed to monitor individuals convicted of sexual offenses. Furthermore, a restraining order was issued against him, explicitly prohibiting any contact with the victim to prevent further harm or intimidation.

Det Sgt Amerjit Singh, who led the investigation, expressed his views on the case, stating, “Abbas is a manipulative and controlling individual who preyed on this girl who was young and innocent. It must have been a terrifying experience for her, and I commend her bravery in coming forward to give evidence against him. I hope this conviction sends a clear message that offences of this nature are not tolerated, and Cambridgeshire Constabulary will take robust action against those responsible.”

He also emphasized the importance of victims coming forward, adding, “We encourage any victim of serious sexual violence to come forward and report offences. We will do everything in our power to help and support victims of these horrendous crimes.”
