DAVID GOODSTATD SENTENCED TO 17 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN PETERBOROUGH AND WHITTLESEY

In a harrowing case that has shocked the communities of Peterborough and Whittlesey, David Goodstatd, a 45-year-old man with a history of religious and educational roles, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 17 years for a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against young girls.

Goodstatd, who previously served as a priest and later worked as a religious education teacher at Thomas Deacon Academy in Peterborough, showed no visible emotion as he was led away to begin his sentence by Judge Sean Enright at Peterborough Crown Court on Monday. The court proceedings revealed that Goodstatd was convicted of multiple serious charges, including the rape of one girl and numerous counts of indecent assault against other victims. The crimes spanned several years, with one girl subjected to abuse when she was under the age of 10.

The judge, in his sentencing remarks, expressed deep concern over the lasting impact of Goodstatd’s actions. “I have read the victim impact statements. It is very clear you have done a great deal of damage over the years,” Judge Enright stated. He also noted that Goodstatd continued to deny the allegations, suggesting that he would likely never admit to his wrongdoings.

During the trial, the court heard that Goodstatd’s offenses had caused significant trauma to the victims, who demonstrated remarkable bravery in coming forward to give evidence. Detective Constable Amanda Sylvester commented on the case, emphasizing the danger posed by Goodstatd. “Goodstatd is a dangerous man and we’re pleased he is now behind bars,” she said. “The victims showed great bravery in coming forward and ultimately giving evidence at court in order to bring him to justice. His actions have had a huge impact on all three victims and will no doubt continue to do so for many years to come. Only now have they been able to start rebuilding their lives, the fact the jury believed them is a huge step forward in that process.”

As part of his sentence, Goodstatd will be required to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for the rest of his life, a measure that underscores the severity of his crimes. Additionally, a sexual offences prevention order has been imposed, restricting his contact with individuals under the age of 18. The court considered the possibility of an indeterminate sentence but ultimately decided that the combination of restrictions and a fixed-term sentence would sufficiently manage the risk he poses.

Goodstatd, who resides on Broad Street in Whittlesey, was convicted of one count of rape, one count of attempted rape, one count of indecency with a child, and five counts of indecent assault. The case has left a lasting scar on the local communities, highlighting the importance of vigilance and the courage of victims in seeking justice against those who abuse their trust.
