VICTOR MORGAN PLEADS GUILTY TO VOYEURISM IN PLYMOUTH FOLLOWING HOTEL STAY
In August 2012, Victor Morgan, a 71-year-old pensioner, was found guilty of secretly filming two 16-year-old girls in his bathroom, an incident that occurred as they were getting ready for a Christmas party. Morgan set up a hidden camera in his bathroom, claiming he did so because he was concerned the girls might steal his soap, Exeter Crown Court was told.He recorded a 13-minute video that began with footage of his own arm placing the camera on a shelf overlooking the shower and bath area in the corner of the bathroom. The court heard that the two girls, who had asked Morgan for permission before taking showers, were unaware they were being filmed.
Prosecutor Mr. Richard Crabb explained, “Morgan filmed them both separately, as they had showers in his bathroom, using a concealed camera hidden among toiletries on a shelf. Neither girl knew they were being filmed. They had asked permission beforehand and used the bathroom normally, without consent being given for filming.”
Police discovered the footage, which clearly showed both girls naked during their showers in Morgan’s home in Paignton, Devon. Mr. Crabb emphasized, “He claimed he did it to ensure his toiletries weren’t stolen and insisted there was no sexual motive. But it is clear they did not consent to being filmed in a private act within a locked bathroom. He was caught red-handed.”
He further pointed out, “Having a concern about soap theft does not justify setting up a hidden camera, filming the girls naked, storing the footage on a computer, and viewing it later. Questions remain—if his interest was toiletries, why was he filming the shower? Why not simply film the toiletries? And why not delete the footage?”
Mr. Crabb concluded, “There was clearly an intent beyond mere curiosity, and it was not about soap. When he made and viewed the video, it was evident his motives were not innocent.”
Additionally, Morgan admitted to previous offenses involving images of a 15-year-old girl involved in sexual activity. Although he denied two counts of voyeurism, he was convicted after a trial and was released on bail pending sentencing reports.
