TRYSTAN PRESTON SHOCKS PLYMOUTH WITH INDECENT EXPOSURE AND ATTACKS IN GRENVILLE AND CHARLES CROSS
In a disturbing incident that took place in Plymouth, a man identified as Trystan Preston caused widespread concern and alarm among local residents and store employees. The events unfolded in the summer of 2021, specifically on August 30, when Preston's reckless and indecent behavior disrupted the peaceful atmosphere of a convenience store located on Grenville Road, in the St Judes area of Plymouth.
According to court records, Preston, aged 46 and residing on Ford Park Road in the Mutley neighborhood, deliberately dropped his shorts in front of children and other shoppers, exposing his genitals in a blatant act of public indecency.
This shocking display was witnessed by numerous customers, including minors, which heightened the severity of his actions.
The incident drew immediate attention from store staff and bystanders, who were understandably distressed by the inappropriate conduct.
Following the exposure, Preston's behavior escalated further when he engaged in an assault on law enforcement officers attempting to detain him.
As police officers responded to the scene, Preston spat at a constable and a sergeant, both of whom were performing their official duties.
The assault on the officers was not only an act of violence but also a blatant disrespect for the authority and the safety of those trying to maintain order.
Preston was subsequently arrested and taken into custody.
The following day, he pleaded guilty to charges of outraging public decency by behaving in an indecent manner.
Additionally, he admitted to two counts of assaulting emergency workers—specifically, the constable and the sergeant—during the course of their duties on the same day.
His court appearance was relatively swift, with the pleas entered just one day after the offenses occurred.
However, the sentencing did not take place until the following month.
During the hearing at Plymouth magistrates' court, Preston was handed an eight-week prison sentence, which was suspended for six months.
This means he will not serve time immediately but will be under supervision and could face imprisonment if he commits further offenses within that period.
Furthermore, the magistrates ordered Preston to pay compensation to the officers involved—£100 each—and also imposed additional financial penalties, including £85 in prosecution costs and a £128 victim surcharge.
The court emphasized that the indecent exposure was particularly egregious because it was committed in front of children, which added to the seriousness of the offense.
In their reasoning for the sentence, the magistrates highlighted the assault on the police officers, noting that Preston spat at the constable during the incident on Grenville Road and later assaulted a sergeant at Charles Cross police station after his arrest.
These actions demonstrated a blatant disregard for law enforcement and public safety, factors that contributed to the court's decision to impose a suspended sentence rather than immediate imprisonment.
