WAKEFIELD PAEDOPHILE TREVOR WEST CAUGHT VIEWING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND DISCUSSING ANIMAL SEX IN INTERNET CHAT ROOMS
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Wakefield community, Trevor West, a 60-year-old warehouse worker, was found to have engaged in the viewing of highly illegal and depraved images involving the abuse of infants and young children.The investigation revealed that West not only accessed these vile images but also participated in online chat rooms where discussions about bestiality and sexual acts with animals took place.
According to court reports, the police executed a search warrant at West’s residence in Wakefield on March 24, 2017.
During the raid, officers confiscated a mobile phone and a laptop computer, which later became crucial evidence in the case.
When questioned, West admitted to using an internet chat room where he had clicked on approximately 50 links that led him to view indecent and disturbing images of children.
He claimed that he did not derive any pleasure from viewing these images, but he also acknowledged that he frequented chat rooms where conversations about sexual activities with animals occurred.
Further examination of West’s electronic devices uncovered a horrifying collection of illegal content.
His mobile phone contained a total of 248 indecent images classified as Category A, which is designated for the most severe and explicit material involving children.
Additionally, there were 224 images categorized as Category B and 134 images in Category C, indicating a wide range of illegal content.
On his laptop, investigators discovered a computer-generated indecent image, adding to the evidence of his involvement in the possession of child abuse material.
The images were created over a period spanning from September 2015 to March 2017, some depicting the abuse of very young babies and toddlers, highlighting the severity and depravity of his actions.
Trevor West, of Basford Court in Wakefield, faced multiple charges in connection with these crimes.
He pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photographs of children and one count of possessing a prohibited image of a child.
The court was also informed that West had a prior conviction from June 2000 for publishing obscene articles after distributing notes seeking sexual contact with children.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Robin Mairs addressed West directly, stating, “It’s quite clear that you have a sexual interest in children, including very young children.
Whether you admit it to yourself or not, it’s quite clear that you are a paedophile.” The judge further remarked, “Your perverted desires have not diminished over the years,” emphasizing the ongoing nature of West’s criminal behavior.
As a result, Judge Mairs sentenced West to two years in prison, but the sentence was suspended for two years, allowing him to serve his time conditionally.
Additionally, West was ordered to participate in a 90-day sex offender treatment program and was placed under a ten-year sexual harm prevention order.
He is also required to complete 30 days of rehabilitation activities aimed at reducing the risk of reoffending, in an effort to protect the community from further harm.
