October 2008 Go to hell paedophile A PERVERT climbing instructor who preyed on ten deaf kids was caged for 12 years yesterday — as one victim hit out: “I hope he goes to Hell.” Applause broke out in court as beast Colin Macdonald was finally jailed for “disgraceful assaults” dating back more than 30 years. Some victims bravely waived their anonymity to tell of their relief at the sentence at the High Court in Edinburgh. Joseph, said through a sign language expert: “I feel ecstatic. I hope he goes to Hell.” James, said: “I expected seven or eight years — to hear 12 years was fantastic.” George Drinnan, 45, from London, added: “I am very, very happy. He deserved it. I hope he dies in prison.” George was the first to come forward to accuse Macdonald — and believes there could be more than 100 victims. Skiing and climbing expert Macdonald, 61 — who is himself deaf — was earlier convicted of molesting ten boys between 1973 and 1981. The evil predator pounced during a series of trips to beauty spots across the Highlands and Western Isles. Victims and relatives applauded as judge Lord Malcolm sentenced Macdonald. He said: “You sexually abused and assaulted vulnerable deaf children who were entrusted to your care. “You have refused to accept full responsibility for your disgraceful assaults upon them and even tried to blame some of your victims.” Macdonald, of Wakefield, Yorkshire, but formerly from Glasgow, was also put on the sex offenders register. He carried out attacks on boys in his care at various locations including Glasgow, Glendoll, Sutherland, Mallaig, Glencoe, Aviemore and the isles of Rum and Harris. His youngest victim was just 10 and the oldest 15. Macdonald, who is originally from Glasgow, was finally caught after two of his victims exchanged text messages decades later and went to the police. He later admitted the abuse while being questioned by Northern Constabulary at Wakefield where he fled after the allegations emerged.
