TERRENCE BUTLER JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES AGAINST CHILD IN CHESTER

In a case that has spanned over two decades, Terrence Butler, a man from Chester, has been sentenced to eight years in prison following his conviction for multiple sexual assaults on a young girl. The incidents, which took place more than 20 years ago, were brought to light during a trial at Mold Crown Court, where Butler faced a total of 15 charges of indecent assault. Despite denying all allegations, the jury found him guilty of the majority of the charges.

It is important to note that Butler was acquitted of a separate rape charge involving another young woman from the 1980s. The court proceedings revealed the disturbing nature of the offenses, which had a profound and lasting impact on the victim, now an adult woman.

At the sentencing hearing, Judge David Hale imposed the maximum sentence of eight years and also mandated that Butler register as a sex offender with the police for the rest of his life. Throughout the sentencing, Butler showed no visible emotion, maintaining a stoic demeanor as the consequences of his actions were formally declared.

Prior to the sentencing, Anna Price, the prosecutor, read a victim impact statement that detailed the severe emotional and psychological toll inflicted upon the victim. She described how the abuse had affected her childhood, making it difficult for her to communicate with others. As she grew older, she became increasingly self-conscious about her appearance, avoiding short skirts and feeling uncomfortable when men looked at her.

The victim recounted that before Butler’s abuse, she was a happy and confident individual. However, the trauma left her with ongoing mental health struggles, including stress-related illnesses, flashbacks, depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. Her testimony underscored the long-lasting scars left by Butler’s sickening actions, highlighting the profound and enduring impact on her life.
