FLIMBY TEEN ADMITS TO CONTROLLING ABUSE, VIOLENCE, AND PHONE TRACKING OF EX-GIRLFRIEND
A teenager from Flimby has pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to controlling and abusive behavior towards his former girlfriend, including violence and phone tracking. The 19-year-old, Sol Wedgewood-Paterson, engaged in coercive conduct for over two years, which involved belittling, verbal abuse, threatening her family, and installing tracking software on her mobile phone.
The most serious assault resulted in facial bone fractures, with the incident occurring on July 30, 2022, in Workington.
He admitted to five allegations, including wounding, assault causing actual bodily harm, and criminal damage to a window and her mobile phone.
During a court hearing at Carlisle Crown Court, the judge ordered a sentencing hearing set for March 1, and Wedgewood-Paterson was granted bail with conditions not to contact the victim or enter an exclusion zone.
The defendant only confirmed his identity and pleas during the hearing and denied causing grievous bodily harm with intent, though the prosecution accepted his plea to the lesser wounding charge.
The court highlighted the distress caused to the victim through his persistent abusive behavior, and a psychological report and victim statement are now to be considered before sentencing.
