CARLISLE TEENAGER JAILED FOR SEXUALLY PREDATORY ATTACK ON SCHOOLGIRL
Police have commended the bravery of a schoolgirl whose evidence was instrumental in convicting Leo Wilson, a 'predatory' teenager from west Cumbria, who was found guilty of raping her.At Carlisle Crown Court, Wilson, aged 19, was sentenced to three years and two months in prison for the offenses committed when he was 15 years old.
The charges included both the rape of the girl and a second serious sexual offense against her.
The assault took place after the victim and her friend visited Wilson at his residence on School Drive, Flimby.
During the early hours, one of the girls awoke to find Wilson atop her, sexually assaulting and raping her.
After being arrested, Wilson refused to answer questions.
His sentence also included a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and an indefinite registration on the Sex Offender Register.
Detective Constable Simon Quinn, who led the investigation, stated: "Wilson sought to take advantage of a girl, who was younger than him, and who had fallen asleep in his room.
His actions were predatory and he was fully aware that he did not have the victim's consent.
I’d like to thank the victim for her bravery and courage through the process—her statements ultimately led to a guilty plea and Wilson's conviction.
The police encourage any victim of sexual offenses to come forward for support and investigation.
Support services are available, and the police work closely with partner agencies to provide tailored assistance."
