SHYAM HARJI SENTENCED IN CARDIFF FOR PEDOPHILE OFFENSES
In March 2019, a disturbing case emerged involving Shyam Harji, a 29-year-old man from Cardiff.Harji engaged in online conversations with what he believed to be a 14-year-old girl, expressing explicit fantasies about white girls wearing Indian clothes in a bedroom setting.
Unbeknownst to Harji, he was communicating with an undercover police officer.
Cardiff Crown Court was told that Harji sent two sets of 'disgusting' messages in September 2017.
Prosecutor Nicholas Gareth Jones explained: "The police officer who was on the other end of the computer was actually saying she was a 14-year-old.
He was 27 at the time of the incident." The officer, pretending to be a teenage girl named Hannah, asked Harji, "I’m 14 – you cool with that?" Harji responded by asking sexual questions and expressed a desire for a partner who 'treats her like a lady,' mentioning they could go for walks 'under the stars.'" During sentencing, Recorder Paul Hopkins QC criticized Harji’s conduct: "In the messages with this decoy, your language is disgusting and revolting, knowing full well she was admitting she was 14 years of age.
It was clear in the course of communication on September 4 that she identified as 14 years old." Harji admitted to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
He was sentenced to a 24-month community order and required to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, he was served a sexual harm prevention order valid for five years to restrict future behavior.
