Robert Miller

Cardiff Whitchurch Sexual Abuser

January 2010 Serious child porn images found on PC; Guilty man sacked by police force A POLICE worker had more than 80 indecent photographs of children on his home computers after using a website called Teen Chat, a court heard yesterday.  Civilian control room worker Robert Miller, 54, was on holiday when detectives raided his Whitchurch home in Cardiff and seized his computer equipment.  Anti-child pornography officers swooped after an investigation by the Metropolitan Police into another sex offender in London.  Indecent photographs and chat room conversations on the “Teen Chat” site were found on the man’s computer, linking him to Miller, who worked at South Wales Police’s Bridgend headquarters and is a respected member of St John Ambulance.  Fifteen of the photographs on Miller’s home computer were in the serious indecency categories, Cardiff Crown Court heard yesterday.  Police experts also found a further 57 indecent photographs had been deleted from Miller’s computer.  Prosecutor David Webster said: “Miller was arrested as a result of intelligence from the Metropolitan Police. He claimed he had not acquired the images and had not downloaded them purposely. He said he had not deliberately sought images of this kind.  “Data relating to a chat room called Teen Chat and a number of child abuse images were recovered from a computer file.”  Miller, a grandfather, was arrested following an investigation led by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). The IPCC was involved in the investigation because Miller worked for South Wales Police. He was sacked in October.  He admitted six counts of making indecent photographs of children and two counts of possessing indecent photographs of children.  His lawyer Jannett Treharne told the court: “He has lost his job and has already suffered a great deal.”  Judge Philip Richards yesterday told Miller: “What you did was extremely wicked. You have brought great shame and embarrassment to yourself and your family. I have difficulty in understanding why you could not perceive that what you did adds to the exploitation of innocent children.”  Miller was given a three-year community service order and was ordered to register as a sex offender for five years at Cardiff Crown Court.  After the court hearing an IPCC spokesman said that a man arrested by the Metropolitan Police – Bryn Bowen – had shared indecent images with Miller.  Bowen, 43, of Plumstead in South East London, took naked pictures of himself posing with a young child and was jailed indefinitely in June at Woolwich Crown Court.  IPCC Wales Commissioner Tom Davies said: “The original investigation by the Metropolitan Police uncovered the transfer of these awful images of children. A thorough investigation by South Wales Police led to Miller being dismissed.”  A South Wales Police spokeswoman said the force would not be issuing any statement about Miller.  Former police worker Robert Miller was given a community service order at Cardiff Crown Court after indecent pictures of children were found on his home computer
