January 2017 Sex offender banned from the internet caught using Facebook A man on the sex offender’s register has admitted setting up a Facebook profile under another name. Scot Wright broke the terms of his sex offender’s register requirements when he failed to tell the police about the account. Between November 8 and 23, 2016, the 23-year-old set up and used the account under the name of John Forge. Jim Clare, prosecuting, said: “In November last year, a Lincolnshire Police intelligence analyst conducted research on Facebook to try to find the user of a mobile phone number. “It was linked to a name John Forge. “It was then established it was being used by Scot Wright.” On January 30, 2017 Lincoln Magistrates’ Court heard Mr Wright had a previous conviction for possessing extreme pornographic images on August 19, 2011. In mitigation, Tony Freitas, said: “This was a simply way of keeping in touch with his family.” He added: “The police went back to check and found the account had been deleted. “Wright then attended the police station voluntarily.” Mr Freitas confirmed Wright , of Lea Road, Gainsborough, had attended the police station after police requested he did so. Wright was previously placed under a blanket ban which prevented him from using online technology. Mr Freitas said: “Wright admits he has struggled with that.” Chief magistrate Jennifer James said: “We’ve had sight of this record, which is lengthy and serious and this is not the first breach and we’ve heard from probation you seem to be making little if any progress in changing your thoughts and behaviour.” The case was sent to Lincoln Crown Court for sentencing and Wright was granted unconditional bail.
