ROBERT STEVENSON JAILED IN DERBYSHIRE FOR ONLINE CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION
A man with a background as a firefighter from Derbyshire has been sentenced to prison after engaging in disturbing online activities involving minors.Robert Stevenson, aged 31 and formerly residing in Long Eaton, was found guilty of multiple serious charges related to the sexual exploitation of children and the distribution of indecent images.
Stevenson’s criminal conduct came to light after investigations revealed that he had been actively messaging young girls on various social media platforms, including Instagram and Snapchat.
His modus operandi involved offering money to these minors in exchange for explicit photographs and videos.
Many of the victims were underage girls, some as young as 13 years old.
One particularly alarming incident involved Stevenson sending a photograph of himself dressed in a firefighter uniform to a girl, claiming he was 19 years old.
This act was part of his attempt to appear more credible and trustworthy to his victims.
The case escalated when a 15-year-old girl confided in the police that Stevenson had threatened to post an explicit image of her online unless she complied with his demands.
This girl had initially been contacted through direct messages on Instagram, where Stevenson asked if she wanted to earn £100.
The conversation then moved to Snapchat, where Stevenson falsely claimed to be 17 years old after the girl disclosed her age.
The police investigation was triggered by the girl’s report, leading to the seizure of Stevenson's electronic devices.
Forensic analysis uncovered a pattern of communication with multiple girls, many of whom he paid to send him explicit images and videos.
An examination of his bank accounts revealed numerous payments made to several young females, further confirming his exploitation.
During the trial at Derby Crown Court, Stevenson denied all charges, which included causing or inciting the sexual exploitation of a child aged 13 to 17, encouraging a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity, and producing indecent images or pseudo-photographs of a child.
Despite his denial, the evidence presented was compelling enough for a guilty verdict.
On 27 September, Stevenson appeared before the court for sentencing.
The judge sentenced him to seven years in prison.
Additionally, he was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and was placed on the sex offenders register, marking a significant step in safeguarding the community from further harm by this individual.
