A man who inflicted physical injuries and subjected his partner to ongoing abuse has been sent to prison after a court determined that his original sentence was too lenient.
In June, Luke Pollard received a two-year suspended sentence at Nottingham Crown Court after pleading guilty to causing serious injury and engaging in controlling and coercive conduct.
The case was subsequently referred to the Attorney General by the authorities.
Following a hearing at the Court of Appeal in London on Wednesday, November 26, the judiciary concluded that the initial punishment did not reflect the severity of his actions and replaced it with a two-year custodial sentence.
Pollard, aged 33, was responsible for regular assaults against his partner, including threats to her life, and exerted control over her daily routines.
He isolates her from her family and friends and imposed strict rules she was required to follow.
The woman reported the abuse to the police after sustaining a broken arm during an attack at their residence in October 2022, when Pollard pushed and punched her.
She fell to the ground, and he continued his assault, causing significant bruising, a broken arm, and cuts and grazes to her face and head.
Pollard, from Meadow Court, Grassmoor, was not present at the hearing but later turned himself into the police and is now serving his sentence.
