MAN JAILED AFTER ASSAULTING, THREATENING AND CONTROLLING PARTNER

A man who subjected his partner to physical abuse, threats, and controlling behavior has been sentenced to prison.

Morgan Robertson mistreated the woman throughout their relationship, physically assaulting her by punching and slapping her, throwing drinks, and verbally abusing her.

The abuse was revealed when the woman reported him to police at the end of 2023.

She informed authorities of several incidents, including an assault in Birmingham where Robertson dragged her by the hair during an argument.

In September 2021, he broke her phone, punched her multiple times, and had another friend intervene to stop him.

On another occasion, he pressed a knife to her throat while she was against a wall and choked her.

Following a dispute, he also gave her a black eye after punching her and threatened her with a knife.

Throughout their relationship, Robertson exerted control over the woman by checking her phone, accusing her of infidelity, restricting her interactions with friends, monitoring her social media, and consistently subjecting her to physical and verbal abuse.

Even after the relationship ended, he continued to threaten her via messages, claiming he would visit her home to assault her.

He was detained by police and charged with assault causing actual bodily harm and with engaging in coercive or controlling behavior.

The 27-year-old, who had no fixed address, denied the allegations but was convicted after a trial in December 2025.

On 1 May, he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing and was sentenced to four years and ten months in prison.

Additionally, he was issued a restraining order banning any contact with the woman for ten years.
