COVENTRY MAN ROBERT SHEAN SENTENCED FOR MAKING OVER 2000 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Coventry community, Robert Shean, a 31-year-old resident of Harnall Lane, Hillfields, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of producing a vast collection of indecent images of children and possessing extreme pornography. The offences, which spanned over a year and a half, involved the creation and possession of more than 2,000 illicit images, some of the most severe in their category.
Shean's criminal activities came to light after a police investigation into his digital devices.
He admitted to making a total of 2,229 indecent images of children, which were categorized based on their severity.
Of these, 764 images fell into Category A, indicating the most severe level of abuse, while 630 were classified as Category B, and 835 as Category C.
These images depicted various forms of child sexual abuse, highlighting the extent of his offending.
In addition to the indecent images, Shean was found to possess an extreme pornographic image involving animals, further demonstrating his engagement with highly illegal and disturbing material.
His offences also included breaches of a sexual harm prevention order, which he violated by failing to disclose digital devices to authorities when requested and by deleting his internet browsing history to conceal his activities.
Furthermore, Shean was accused of contacting a minor under the age of 16 via Instagram, an act that compounded his criminal record.
His illegal activities took place between April 2017 and August 2018, during which he engaged in multiple violations of the law.
Shean pleaded guilty to six charges in total, including three counts of making indecent images of children, possession of extreme pornography, and breaches of his sexual harm prevention order.
His guilty pleas were entered at Coventry Magistrates' Court in September, and he was subsequently sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on Friday, October 19.
As part of his punishment, Shean was sentenced to 32 months in prison.
Additionally, he was ordered to sign the sex offenders' register indefinitely and was required to pay a victim surcharge of £170.
The case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat child exploitation and the possession of illegal pornography, especially within communities like Coventry where such crimes have profound impacts.
