ROBERT BELL FROM BLACKBURN SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN PRESTON
In February 2023, a disturbing case involving a man from Blackburn who committed heinous acts against a young girl culminated in his conviction and sentencing.Robert Bell, aged 57, was brought before Preston Crown Court where he faced serious charges related to the sexual assault of a five-year-old girl.
The court heard that Bell, who was formerly residing on Monmouth Road in Blackburn but was later found to have no fixed address, had committed these grave offenses against a vulnerable child.
The investigation into Bell’s actions was initiated after Lancashire Police received a report detailing the assault.
Following his arrest, authorities conducted a thorough search of Bell’s mobile phone and computer devices.
The digital evidence uncovered was deeply disturbing, revealing indecent images of children, including some of the most severe types of child sexual abuse, such as child rape.
These findings played a significant role in the case against him.
During the court proceedings, Bell pleaded guilty to charges of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13 and producing indecent images of children.
His admission of guilt led to a sentencing that reflects the gravity of his crimes.
Judge Andrew Jeffries KC described Bell as a significant threat to the public, emphasizing that he poses a high risk of harm, particularly to female children.
As a result, Bell was sentenced to an extended determinate term of nine years in prison.
In addition to his prison sentence, the court mandated that Bell must satisfy the conditions set by The Parole Board to demonstrate that he no longer poses a danger before he can be considered for early release.
Furthermore, he was subjected to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, which aims to restrict his contact with children and prevent further offenses.
Bell was also ordered to register as a sex offender for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.
The impact of Bell’s crimes on the victim’s family was profound.
The victim’s mother provided a heartfelt statement to the court, describing the devastating effects on her daughter.
She explained that before the assault, her daughter was a happy, sociable, and carefree five-year-old.
However, since the incident, her daughter’s behavior and emotional well-being have drastically changed.
The mother revealed that her daughter now struggles with sleep, often crying and feeling unsafe even after taking medication prescribed by their GP.
The child’s nightmares and fears persist, leaving her exhausted and distressed.
The mother expressed her helplessness and concern for her daughter’s future, noting that her child now fears unfamiliar men and exhibits behaviors more typical of an older child, such as anger and swearing.
She lamented the loss of her daughter’s innocence and the emotional toll the incident has taken on her family, highlighting the long-lasting scars left by Bell’s actions.
The court’s decision reflects the seriousness of the crimes committed and the ongoing need to protect vulnerable children from individuals like Robert Bell.
